Monday, November 12 – Jekyll Island (Lay Day):
We woke up
to a steel gray sky and light drizzle on and off. The weather would try and clear up from time
to time, and fluffy white clouds would go scudding across the sky, but steel
gray to dark and stormy usually prevailed.
The humidity helped keep the temperature warmish even though it was
cool. Unfortunately, since it was such a
dreary day, not particularly conducive to bike riding, we decided to have a
boat chore day, and we wound up doing laundry and other little projects.
The Laundromat
here was busier than I have seen other Laundromats in marinas. It seemed like every other boat owner decided
to do laundry today, and I had to “get in line.” We decided that we would kill two birds with
one stone, so we decided to have lunch at the marina restaurant while the
clothes were washing, but the machines were busy then also. It took me over three hours to wash our
clothes – I did my good deed of the day, and let someone use one of the dryers
ahead of me who had been trying to dry her clothes since the morning. She kept losing her place as she had taken
her clothes out of the washer, and put them in a bag waiting for a dryer so as
to free up the washer for another person.
Now I know why people bring books and read while their clothes are
washing and tumbling.
I decided
after making it through Jekyll Creek yesterday that the name should be changed
to the Jekyll and Hyde Creek. At low
tide the creek would become Hyde Creek and at high tide, Jekyll Creek. You can tell I have not had a lot on my mind
today.
I also
decided that it may have been fortuitous that we didn’t go bike riding
today. I got to thinking about where we
saw that alligator yesterday, and began to wonder if we had decided to ride our
bikes on that same path today, maybe the alligator would have been looking for
a meal on the same side we were riding on.
So, I think maybe the rain saved us!
Speaking of
marine life – the noisy, little boat munchers are back with their snapping
little claws. I heard them all night
long.
Well, that
was pretty much the day. Bob has
informed me that tomorrow is the day that we GO OUT IN THE OCEAN. So stay tuned for further information on that
adventure. If you don’t get a blog from
me tomorrow night, you’ll know the Sea Gods got me…
Right now,
it’s raining, I have some homemade spaghetti sauce, and some fresh bread from
the bakery, and a nice glass of red wine to go with dinner. Then, if we are really lucky, I think we may
be able to watch the football game on TV – if the FCC and DirecTV knew that we
had the potential to actually watch something besides the daily murder channel,
they would probably cancel our signal.
So we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
The cat is sitting in my lap, and I’m not going to think about the ocean
tonight.
Hello you two,
ReplyDeleteAs usual, we have so enjoyed keeping up with you. But I do have to say...Liz, you are making far too impressive dinners! My mouth waters every time you mention what you are cooking! I'm not doing anything so ambitious.
We just got back from seeing the new Bond film "Skyfall". It is quite good, great cinematography and scenery!
Can't wait to hear how the ocean went today. Carry on!
Liz, Now Jim and I are the ones biting our nails... anticipating your next Blog, since you went out into the Ocean!
