Friday, March 15, 2013 – Cocoa:
Well, it was an awful day!  It started out ok – I got to sleep in till 8:00 a.m. so the sun was shining brilliantly in a crystal clear blue sky when we got up – it was still very chilly, however, and we put on warm clothes again, and we turned on the heat to take the chill off the inside of the boat (the thermometer registered 58° inside), but it warmed up soon enough, and I made a nice breakfast of bacon and eggs, and we shared a raisin bran muffin from the bakery, and after we ate breakfast we took our coffee up on the fly bridge and watched the comings and goings of boats and people.   So far so good, right?
After we finished our coffee, I decided to go back down below to do some paperwork, and as I went to sit down on the settee at the table, I did not see kitty cat underneath on the floor by the settee, and I stepped right on her little paw – with my shoes on.  Aaarrghghgh…and yikes…
The poor little thing let out this shrieking yowl, and I practically did somersaults and other acrobatics trying to get off her paw.  Then, of course, she bolted for our cabin and under the covers.  I was really concerned that I might have broken a bone in her paw.  I raced down after her, all the while offering my apologies for stepping on her foot, but unfortunately, I don’t think kitty cats can understand human language much less have the capacity to understand that I didn’t mean to step on her or what an “accident” is.   As a matter of fact I really don’t think she understood anything that went on in that period of two seconds, except that something large and heavy smashed her little paw.  I probably should have just left her alone, but I gently reached under the covers amidst her protestations, and said how sorry I was over and over while trying to pet her.  Honestly, I can’t possibly tell you how bad I felt.
So I finally decided that the best thing to do was leave her along and just go about the rest of the morning, but I still felt awful.  Anyway, she didn’t even come out from under the covers until sometime this afternoon – she even skipped lunch, even though I slammed the refrigerator door several times and called her name.  I think she did that just to make me feel more guilty.  But after a while, she did leave the safety of the covers and came up into the main cabin, jumped up on the back of the settee and gazed out the window.  She seemed “none the worse for wear,” and I petted her and said I was sorry some more – and then she said she wanted lunch.  So I suppose now that she has had a meal all is right with the world again.
Kitty Cat recovering after lunch!
After that traumatic event, we just did some chores around the boat.  After our trip here yesterday, the boat was covered with salt, so Bob cleaned the outside of the boat, and I straightened up the inside.  We need to run some errands like getting some more propane for our grill, so tomorrow we will plan on walking over the to the Travis Hardware store.  I wonder if anything has changed in the two months since we have been there.  I’m guessing not, as it doesn’t seem that much has changed in that store in 200 years!
We are now trying to completely deplete our food in the freezer and refrigerator before we fly back home in two weeks, so we aren’t planning any trips to the grocery store.   We did want to rent a car and take a trip back to Winter Park, but as this is Spring Break time, the cost of a car rental is astronomical right now and besides that they told us they don’t have any cars, so I think we will wait and do that when we fly back here in April.
So, with having said all that, I don’t think I will have too much exciting to write about for the next few days, but I will endeavor to find something interesting to “blog” about.
That’s it for now.  I am going to go and pet the cat some more.
