Wednesday, March 13, 2013 – Vero Beach:
We were sitting at the table today, playing cards and discussing lunch and the minute I said the word, “lunch,” the cat who was snoozing on the helm seat, perked her ears up, jumped down and started meowing.  I ignored her, and we continued our conversation.  I am out of “lunch meat,” so we decided that tuna fish would be good for lunch today, and as soon as I mentioned tuna fish, Lucy meowed even louder.  Now I know cats cannot possibly understand English, but seriously, the reaction we got from “tuna fish” does make one wonder.  So I made tuna fish for lunch, and gave her the tuna “juice” from the can, and she was ecstatically happy.
We had visions of launching the dinghy and dinghying up to the little grocery store, but the weather was really blowing this morning, and after checking at the office if the slip next to us would remain empty, and being told that they would really appreciate it if we could have the dinghy back on our boat by 12:00 p.m., we decided to scrap the dinghy idea in favor of riding our bikes.  What is wrong with us?  Plus we found out that there was no place to tie the dinghy up while we shopped. (If there is a boat next to us, there is not enough room to launch the dinghy off the boat and get it back up again.)
So we woke up to chilly, windy weather – beautifully sunny skies though.  We took our coffee up on the fly bridge, and it was so warm we were roasting, however.  After we finished our lunch, Bob pumped up the tires on the bikes, and off we went.  It is only about a 10-15 minute bike ride, but with our bike seats, it seems like 10-15 hours.  Bob took a chance that if we pedaled extra fast, we could get ice cream back to the boat before it melted.  So we pedaled extra fast, I didn’t fall off the bike this time, and the ice cream made it, and hopefully, we’ll take off tomorrow and head for Cocoa.
Right now we are getting ready to take the bus to the Pomodoro Grill for dinner and then walk back to the boat.
Oh my gosh – Pomodoro Grill was beyond fabulous!   We have gotten some great recommendations for restaurants from our friends up north who spend some time here in Vero Beach in the winter, and their recommendations have been superb!  It is, of course, an Italian restaurant, and Bob ordered Eggplant Parmesan, and I ordered Angel Hair Imperial (it was Italian, and I can’t remember the exact name), and we are stuffed beyond belief.   If you get there before 5:45 p.m. you get the prix fix menu ($16.00) and a bottle of wine for $15.00.  Well we did the whole thing including dessert (Tiramisu), which was the absolutely very best that we have ever had, and now we need a nap.  We are only sorry that our friends from up north couldn’t be here to share this evening with us.
We walked back to the boat in a stuffed stupor, and it’s amazing how beautiful things look – for instance the cat sitting in the yard people watching or the beautiful live oaks with the Spanish moss dripping from their tree limbs.
Lucy, who could care less!

Cat, people watching!

Live oaks on way home

More live oaks on the way back to the boat

Bob has thankfully decided that we will anchor out tomorrow night at Dragon Point, and maybe I will recover by then!
(If none of this makes sense, it is because I’ve had a little too much wine!)

Last sunset in Vero Beach!
