Friday, April 19, 2013 – Going coconuts in Cocoa:
We couldn’t be slugs any longer, so today is a boat cleaning day.  The diver is also supposed to clean our bottom and check the zincs this morning.  I really don’t know what zincs are – I’ve been told a million times, but all I can remember is that if you don’t check them religiously and change them ON TIME the boat will implode and take all your savings with it, and the insurance company will say, “Too bad – you didn’t check your zincs!”  All I know is that zincs are below the water line, and I have made an unwritten rule for myself that I don’t do anything below the water line and that includes the basement.
So Bob cleaned the outside and I cleaned the inside, and the diver came and cleaned the bottom and said THE ZINCS ARE OK.  I hope he knows what he’s talking about.  We finished all this by noon, so I made lunch and we went up on the fly bridge.  It is windy and hot, so Bob closed the doors and turned on the air conditioning which made Kitty Cat unhappy as I think she wanted to go outside, but we didn’t want her outside with no way to get back inside should an errant pterodactyl fly by and scare her.
Sort of speaking of wildlife, I ran into another boat person this morning who told me that she has seen a mother manatee and baby swimming around their boat in the mornings.  That would be a great picture if I could get up early enough to walk around to their rather far away dock and see if I could get a glimpse of them.
We have some friends from the Annapolis area who are also traveling the waterway, and they had made arrangements to come here to Cocoa today, so we were watching for them to enter the channel, and then we were going to help them tie up when we saw what slip they were going into.  And so we did, and then invited them over for cocktails at 5:00 p.m. and then we would go out to dinner, which we did.
There is a nice little Thai restaurant here in Cocoa, which we have heard good reviews about, but I have never been able to get Bob to go there.  He’s pretty much of an American food, meat and potatoes guy.  It’s funny because he likes to watch this TV show called “Bizarre Foods,” and that guy eats some really bizarre stuff, but Bob pretty much likes the tried and true when it comes to food.  Me – I like and will try almost anything.  Our favorite restaurant happened to be closed for a private party, so we had to decide where to go, and our friends happened to mention that they had heard good things about the Thai restaurant, and did we want to go there.  I don’t really know what Bob was thinking, but he (almost) eagerly said, “Sure,” and I readily agreed – and guess what – Bob liked it!!  I think one thing that won him over was it was really inexpensive (cheap if you want to be brutally honest).  Dinner was $10.00.  If we have to hang around here because of the weather, I think we might even go there again!  Not much atmosphere, but we had good company and conversation.  We shared a bottle of wine, and had a great evening.  The restaurant had some dessert they called “tempura cheesecake” which I actually wanted to try, but we were all too stuffed after dinner to order it.  I guess that was probably for the best!
We walked home at 9:00, watched a few more minutes of the capture of the kid who was involved in the Boston marathon bombing and went to bed – happily content with our day, but wondering how people can do some of the awful things they do.
