Thursday, April 18, 2013 – Going “loco” in Cocoa:
We pulled the fan out of the closet last night and set it up in lieu of turning on the air conditioning.  To me there is something wistfully nostalgic about the gentle humming of a fan – it’s definitely more natural and soothing than the industrial growl of the air conditioning unit even if the fan blades do make that whirring noise – but I like the whirring noise.  A fan is redolent of hot nights spent at my aunt’s house when I was little with the windows open, and only a light sheet for a cover, and not having a care in the world except what you were going to do tomorrow.  Sort of like being on the boat!  The other plus is that the fan drowns out the motorcycles that scream down the adjacent highway at the marina at 3:00 a.m. in the morning.  Where are they going and what are they doing at that hour?!  Ok – I don’t want to know.
Nobody is going to believe this, but we went back to the grocery store this morning after breakfast!  Bob heard that lemon juice takes the brown stain off the hull of the boat, so we purchased a giant size bottle, and they had kitty litter on sale, and we thought it would be a good idea to grab some more of that.  We had forgotten to buy English muffins yesterday, and so that was also a must have.
After we got back from the grocery store, Bob returned the rental car, so here we are again – the only mode of transportation available to us now (other than the boat, of course!) is our feet – or – the dreaded bicycles, and everyone knows how I feel about them!
Later this morning, Bob decided he should go down and check out the basement (er…ah…engine room), and all was apparently well, so I was relieved when he shut the door (er…ah…hatch) and declared that everything looked to be in good shape.
I don’t know where my energy has gone.  I guess I needed a “lay” day, because I was pretty worthless for the rest of the day.  Yesterday, we had to hit the ground running when we got back here to open up the boat, get groceries, etc., so today was the day my body decided to put off cleaning the boat.  C’mon – there’s always tomorrow!  Anyway, the cat must have felt the same way I did (Bob didn’t have too much more energy than me or the cat either!), because she spent the majority of the day completely asleep.  After lunch I tried to coax her up on the fly bridge with us, but all I got was the opening of one eye, and that look said it all.  She did decide to join us after awhile, and we all lazily wiled away the afternoon just enjoying the beautiful weather.
Sacked out Kitty
I kept an eye out for our seemingly resident manatee, but I guess he/she has moved on to “greener” seaweed.  There were a few very raucous crows who spent the day debating something that seemed important to them as they flew from mast to mast, to rooftop, to palm trees squawking about something the entire day.
Other than a few puffy white clouds that drifted lazily across the sky when a puff of wind pushed them along, the sky was bright blue, crystal clear – a perfect day for lounging around.  Tomorrow, I guess we’ll have to act like we’re productive.
Not much is happening in Cocoa right now, but we will be preparing to leave in a few days to head north, and things should start to get interesting again.  In the meantime, I think I am going to enjoy as much of this “boring” time here as possible.
