Last night
we fell asleep (at a very early hour) to the lulling sound of the train
whistles and slept for almost ten hours!
That, however, was nothing compared to Lucy cat. She usually wakes us up meowing for her breakfast,
and we are supposed to jump out of bed and comply with her wishes
promptly. This morning we decided to
delay getting up for as long as possible, and Lucy said that was ok with her,
and she crawled back into her little cat hideaway until the sun streaming in
the window finally made us put our feet on the floor.
| Sacked out! |
We left
raw, rainy, foggy, chilly weather yesterday and arrived in weather heaven! What a beautiful morning – all the windows
and doors open and just a lovely temperature.
So, after
Lucy ate breakfast, she found a sunny spot on the deck outside where she
promptly curled up for another nap. I
guess she got too hot after awhile because a little later on she came back
inside and sacked out on the settee for the remainder of the day. She even skipped lunch and finally decided to
disappear into her cat hideaway for the evening hours where she still sleeps as
I write this. I guess she’ll want dinner
sometime tonight. Poor Lucy must be
truly exhausted.
Our main
project for the day was to go to the grocery store and buy at least one of
everything (well, that’s what it seemed like we did anyway!). So after breakfast, we made a grocery list,
which looked like the size of a small novel, hopped in the car and headed for
the nearest Publix. As we pulled into
the parking lot, we looked at each other and asked each other if “you” had
checked to make sure the freezer was working properly. Both of us indicated that we had not. I said that I had thought about it, but got
distracted before I actually lifted the lid to see if it was cold in
there. So, we decided that before we
spent the national debt on food we intended to freeze for future use, it would
be wise to go back and double check to see if it was, indeed, working
properly. So we headed back to the
marina and discovered that, fortunately, all was in proper working order, so
back to the grocery store we went to complete our shopping for the next two
years…no…no…no…I meant two months. Bob
took a cart and I took a cart, we filled both of them to overflowing, each of
us got into a different check-out line, and passed out when we saw the
total. The grocery store personnel waved
a “bear claw” pastry under our noses to revive us, and we loaded up the rental car
and headed back to the boat. The rest of
the afternoon was spent wrapping and freezing serving portions for the next leg
of our trip.
We’ve only
been back a few hours and already we have two huge bags of trash. Honestly, I don’t know where it comes from –
but I think the packaging industry has gone bonkers.
That was it
for the day, and we were exhausted. We
did in one afternoon what it took us about two weeks to do back home! We may have a refrigerator and freezer full
of food, but tonight will be our leftovers from the Olive Garden last night!
After all
was put away and the boat didn’t look like a grocery store on steroids anymore,
we headed up to the flybridge to watch the goings on about the marina. The afternoon – early evening – was just beautiful. The temperature was in the high 70’s, sunny,
with just a gentle touch of a summer-like breeze wafting around us – just a
soft, dreamy afternoon. Perfect.
