Friday, February 22, 2013 – Pelican Bay:
I forgot to mention last night as we were sitting up on the fly bridge with our friends, that there were other sailors in this anchorage who also liked keeping alive the tradition of announcing the lowering of the colors at sundown.  First, we heard the blast of a canon, then a cacophony of conch shells followed.   We have a conch shell at home, and I am so sorry we didn’t think to bring it!  Unfortunately, this morning, every one must have slept in, because there was nothing to announce the raising of the colors.  Oh well!
After we waved good-bye to our friends, we decided to have a light breakfast as neither one of us slept well last night.  Then I finished yesterday’s “blog,” and we took a look at our upcoming itinerary.  We have decided to stay in this anchorage until we go over to Boca Grande on Monday.  I hope to find a grocery store that has cat food in Boca Grande, because I am starting to run low on cat food, and believe me, I would much rather run out of people food before I run out of cat food!  And I hope I can find her brand of cat food, or we are going to be keel-hauled and may have another psychotic cat episode.
Speaking of that incident – I think we may be back to normal again.  I even brushed Missy Mouser with the dreaded cat comb/tyrannosaurus rex claw, and she didn’t freak out.  I don’t know what happened that day on the fly bridge, but I am not going to encourage her to come up there again, and if she does, I am going to totally ignore her.
We did some boat cleaning, played cards, read, and were general slugs, but we have had a very busy social week, and that was very exhausting, and we needed a rest!!  Later this afternoon, we took a glass of wine and sat up on the fly bridge, and at sundown, someone shot off a cannon, and again the conch shells came out!  It was great – a fun ending to a lazy day.  Tomorrow we may do some more exploring via the dinghy.
