Thursday, May 2, 2013 – Isle of Palms:
Today was, in a word – WINDY!  25 to 30 knots with gusts up to 40.  Yikes! When will this ever end?!  This morning was overcast and rainy and with the winds, we opted not to go anywhere today.
I did make a nice lazy breakfast of fried eggs and potato pancakes using the leftover mashed potatoes from last night, and that made a pretty good breakfast!  So we spent the day being disgusted with the weather, but we tried to make the best of it by planning the rest of our itinerary to get home maybe by May 21.  Who knows – we have some friends who have been stuck in Norfolk for days, so with this weather we really can’t plan ahead to far in advance, and we probably shouldn’t complain either.
I thought it would be a good idea today to wash Kitty Cat’s bedding, which is basically just some towels and a blanket she likes to sleep on, but discovered that this marina only has one washing machine and it was broken!!  I don’t think we will be coming back here anymore!
So in addition to planning the rest of our itinerary, Bob and I played cards, did a few minor chores, walked over to the “ship store”, which is actually pretty nice – they have a deli, and a great little shop with something in it for everyone.  There is also a restaurant here, and we may check that out for dinner tonight.
Bob tried to find someone to fix the synchronizer, and actually discovered that the thing is made here in South Carolina, but I think the final decision is that we would wait to get home to have it repaired/replaced or whatever.
In lieu of repairing the synchronizer, Bob decided to clean the hull, which has a huge brown stain on it from the water.  He heard that good ol’ store bought lemon juice would take the stain off, so he bought some the last time we were at Publix, and Lo! and Behold! it worked like a charm.  That sure saves a lot of money on those boat cleaners that you buy at the local marine supply store!
There is a little Grady White boat next to us (maybe 25’ long), and it appears that a couple is living on it with two dogs and a cat.  All I have to say about that is, “Yikes!”
We’ll see what tomorrow brings…probably more wind (ha ha).  Bob says I am exaggerating a “little” bit about the wind today, but, again, he isn’t writing this – I am!!
Isle of Palms, last November, in the sunshine!
